Virtual Virtuosity : The Hybrid Stage in Carry me home

This presentation focuses on a recent experiment by the performing arts collective 7 Fingers: Carry Me Home, a hybrid circus show for both live and virtual audiences. The shift to a virtual stage has a huge impact on the organic presence of the performer and on the affordances and limits of their human body: limits which are already extended in the context of circus performance, even before technological intervention. Does the “feat” of the virtual acrobat wither in the absence of traditional limits to body and stage, or does the virtual offer a new relationship to virtuosity?
